noticing all of the things we love

words & photo by Brian Thompson.

whatever you focus on creates a certain environment within your mind. the thoughts you think and the words you speak control the weather of your emotions.

if you speak negative words of anger and frustration, then that’s exactly how you will feel — you will have a stormy and clouded mind.

but if you use honest words of gratitude, warm intent, and positive affirmation, and if you can find even a glimmer of light to focus on, even if you’re shrouded in darkness, then you will change the very atmosphere of your heart — you will create a calm, clear, and sunny mind.

when you think good vibes, rather than focussing on only the bad, it retrains you brain and transforms your spirit.

gratitude is what makes everything worthwhile — it’s the mindful practice of true and genuine appreciation — no matter where you focus its energy, it has the ability to transcend.

our happiness and joy fades when we take the things we love for granted — notice them, shine your light upon them, bask in their glow.

and so with that being said, i thought i’d write a little morning wake-up affirmation to share with you, just as a reminder for all we have, so we can adore it and honour it more than we already do...

i am grateful for this day.

i am grateful for the chance
to breathe one more breath,
to hear one more song,
to give one more kiss.

i am grateful for the chance
to climb one more mountain,
to stroll one more beach,
to hike one more trail.

i am grateful for the chance
to smile at one more joke,
to read one more book,
to hold one more hand.

i am grateful for the chance
to feel the sun on my brow,
to feel the rain fall on my face,
and to see wispy shapes in the clouds,
one more time.

i am grateful
for the waves that crash along the shore,
for the wind that blows through the trees,
for the hummingbirds that hover in the morning breeze,
and the symbiosis of us all.

i am grateful for the chance
to smell one more flower,
to cook one more meal,
and to savour one more wholesome and home-cooked bite.

i am grateful for the chance
to share my experience,
to express my thoughts,
and to write these words,
one more time.

i am grateful for the chance
to hold the ones i love,
one more time.

i am grateful for the chance
to be awake and aware,
to take all of this in,
and to appreciate all that i can behold,
one more time.

i am grateful for the transcendent energy of positive intent.

i am grateful for the chance
to live, laugh, love and create,
one more time.

i am grateful for one more chance.
i am grateful for this day.
i am grateful.
